Bug Pests

Spiders

Few pests make people as squeamish as spiders, and although they are very beneficial to our ecosystem, they are very unpleasant to have at home, cottage, or business. Not only are they unsightly, but their webbing can be difficult to remove if left unchecked. Our spider treatments are very effective and consist of an exterior (and interior if required) application of residual insecticide to their harbourage sites, such as soffit and fascia, window and door frames, decks and railings, baseboards, attics, crawlspaces etc.. And these treatments include a 2 month warranty!

Combine this treatment with one of our other services such as ants or mice and receive a discount!

Bedbugs

Once thought to be an urban legend, Bed bugs have made an explosive comeback in recent years. These oval, reddish-brown, apple seed sized parasites feed exclusively on blood, and unfortunately humans are their favourite hosts.

Not only are they extremely resistant to most insecticides, but their ability to hide and quickly reproduce makes them virtually impossible for the average home owner to eliminate, and application of over-the-counter insecticides and aerosols are more likely to push the bugs into more obscure harbourage sites and cause them to spread even further. But fear not, bedbugs are by no means invincible.

With effort and a 2 pronged approach of combining both physical and chemical controls, such as thorough vacuuming and steaming of furniture and harbourage sites, and effective use of dust and residual insecticides, we can achieve very fast and extremely effective control of bedbugs and their eggs… while minimizing the impact on your life. Signs of infestation can include bites, blood spots on sheets and pillows, and presence of black specks (similar in appearance to ground pepper) on bedding and furniture.

Carpenter Ants

There are two common species of carpenter ants in Canada, both are primarily black and relatively large, ranging in size from 7-13 mm in length and can be identified by a “spur” located between the abdomen and thorax. They are typically most active at night and during the spring, and summer months, and are attracted to dark, damp areas, and water damaged wood, though they are capable of infesting dry wood and a variety of other materials.

They do not actually eat wood but rather excavate the infested material in order to create tunnels and galleries in which they house their colonies. Small piles of saw dust or “frass” can often be found near the nests, and are an obvious sign of infestation, and it’s not uncommon to actually hear the ants as their mandibles chew at the infested material.

Carpenter Ants
If left untreated carpenter ants can cause extensive damage which can result in potentially costly repairs, not only do our carpenter ant treatments include a one year warranty, but this warranty can be renewed annually when you have us perform an exterior treatment during late spring or early summer to prevent these ants from entering your home. Cluster Flies

Cluster flies are dark grey to almost black in colour with a checkered grey abdomen. The cluster fly is strictly parasitic to earthworms, as female cluster flies lay their eggs in the soil near earthworm burrows and once the larvae emerge from the egg they infest the earthworm. Although they do not pose a health risk to humans like other flies, they can be a serious nuisance as they inhabit your home in late summer or early fall in order to hibernate for the winter, and because of their parasitic relationship with earthworms which live in soil, cluster flies are typically more prevalent in rural areas.

Our cluster fly treatments consist of a thorough interior and exterior treatment of the structure (and attic if applicable). Having this treatment performed in early fall is very effective at preventing cluster flies from entering in the first place and dramatically reduces the amount of flies present in your home the following spring. Fleas

There are over 2500 varieties of fleas around the world, but the most common are the cat and dog fleas.

Obviously as their names suggest, they infest our homes and feed on our pets, not only is this unpleasant for us, but it can be very stressful to your pets as the fleas feed on your pet’s blood and lay eggs in their fur.

These eggs are then dislodged from the fur when your pet scratches, causing these eggs to be dispersed throughout your home. Once these eggs hatch the larvae will emerge seeking organic matter for food, these larvae avoid sunlight and are attracted to dark, humid areas such as soil, cracks and crevices, in bedding, and under carpets and baseboards. Once adequately fed these larvae pupate and seal themselves in a silken cocoon.

Flea
In as little as four days these pupa will metamorphosis into an adult, the adult fleas only goal is to feed on blood and reproduce, Typically only living 2-3 months, a female flea can lay over 5000 eggs, allowing their populations to grow incredibly fast, making them an extremely aggravating and prolific pest!

Cockroaches

Although there are over 30 species of cockroaches known to infest homes, the German Cockroach is typically the most common and troublesome of these species, identified by two dark streaks running parallel from the back of the head to the base of the wings, their colour can vary from tan to almost black, and adults are typically 1-1.6 cm in length.

Cockroaches have been linked to asthma and are capable of reproducing faster than any other residential cockroach species, reaching sexual maturity within a matter of several weeks and impregnated females carrying up to 50 eggs at a time. Making them a prolific and problematic pest!

Cockroach
Cockroaches are primarily nocturnal and are attracted to dark, tight spaces such as cracks and crevices, but can be seen during the day if they’re disturbed or have a large population. A small problem can quickly become a serious infestation if left untreated, so immediate attention is recommended.

Wasps

There are over 100,000 species of wasps around the world, however the yellow jacket, paper wasp, and hornet are typically the most common to have as pests in our region of the world. These social wasps are capable of producing large colonies and cause painful and potentially lethal stings.

Attempting to treat these nests without proper equipment and experience can prove to be extremely hazardous. Our wasp treatments are guaranteed and affordable, by injecting insecticide dust directly into the entry point of the wasp nest , we can quickly neutralize the colony. We will also remove the nest if possible, this treatment includes a warranty of the treated nest or entry point, we are ready to serve!

Personally the only number i'll ever use again for my pest problems. His knowledge and professional approach was remarkable. He explained the process and what i could expect. He treated the house and said he would be back in two weeks for a follow-up. I'm sure the chemicals he used were just as dangerous but the off gases sure were not as bad. Several months later I'm still bug free. Thanks Jon! Great Job and I'm not broke this time either. - Karl Gleason
